Report: Star Wars "Rogue One" film headed for reshoots due to unhappy execs
The first cut of the latest Star Wars stand-alone film didn't exactly wow Disney bosses, if this report from Page Six is to be believed.
Sources tell the website that post-production work for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is "in crisis" as the prequel -- focusing on the rebels' attempt to steal the plans to the first Death Star -- is going into reshoots ahead of its Dec. 16 release date after the first cut of the film did not live up to expectations.
"The execs at Disney are not happy with the movie, and 'Rogue One' will have to go back into four weeks of expensive reshoots in July," a source said of the film, directed by Gareth Edwards.
"Gareth's work on the first 'Godzilla' shows he can handle a big studio blockbuster. But 'Rogue One' has fallen short of what J.J. Abrams did with 'Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens.' So Disney has ordered reshoots," the source explained. "Disney won't take a back seat, and is demanding changes, as the movie isn't testing well."
Reps for Edwards have not commented on the story, but Disney is shrugging off the talks of reshoots.
"The filmmaking team and the studio always anticipated additional shooting and second unit work to make the film the absolute best it can be, and the actors were aware there would be additional shooting," a rep for the studio said. "There's an incredibly high bar for this movie, and we have a responsibility to the franchise and to the fans to deliver the best possible movie we can."
