Report: Remains in S.C. not those of Brittanee Drexel

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Human skeletal remains found on a road in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Saturday afternoon are not those of missing Rochester, N.Y. teen Brittanee Drexel, reports the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle newspaper.

Drexel disappeared while on spring break in Myrtle Beach in April 2009. She was 17 at the time of her disappearance.

Horry County, S.C. Coroner Robert Edge confirmed Tuesday the remains are of a male over the age of 20, according to the paper.

“It’s not her,” Edge reportedly said of Drexel.

Authorities have said it appears the remains have been there for years. It is unclear who the remains belong to or what further steps authorities are taking to make an identification.
