Report: Phish fan tried to steal cops' guns amid Times Square NYE festivities
NEW YORK -- Police say a Seattle man attempted to steal guns from officers in New York City’s Times Square amid New Year’s Eve festivities, reports the New York Daily News.
A lawyer for 40-year-old Scott Zaleski told the paper Zaleski blacked out after attending a Phish concert at Madison Square Garden and doesn’t remember the incident.
“He had no intention of causing harm to anyone and apologizes to the NYPD,” Robert Kelly told the paper. “He feels terrible, embarrassed, he had no recollection.”
Police say Zaleski ran up to two officers around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, tried to take their guns from their holsters, and then ran away. He then allegedly attacked another officer who was standing about a block away, the paper reports.
Police were able to wrestle Zaleski to the ground and take him into custody. He allegedly kicked an officer in the shoulder during the arrest.
Zaleski was charged with attempted robbery and assault. He was ordered released on his own recognizance Sunday night.
