Report: Ore. mom bought sleeping pills before vanishing
DUNDEE, Ore. -- Police have released a new surveillance image of a missing Oregon mother shopping at a Rite-Aid drug store shortly before she vanished July 24, reports CBS affiliate KOIN. Jennifer Huston, 38, reportedly bought Gatorade, a package of trail mix and over-the-counter sleeping pills.
The amount of pills she purchased were not a lethal dose, reports the station.
Huston, of Dundee, Ore., left her home around 5:45 p.m. that day, Newberg-Dundee Police Captain Jeff Kosmicki said at a press conference Monday. She was captured on video at a bank around 6 p.m. withdrawing less than $100, police said.
At around 6:10 p.m., Huston was captured on surveillance video filling up the family's 1999 Lexus SUV at a gas station. Minutes later, between 6:20 and 6:25 p.m., her cell phone was turned off, Kosmicki said.
Police revealed Tuesday that Huston was also seen on camera at the Rite-Aid after she filled up her tank, reports KOIN. Before her cell phone was turned off, she received a text message from her mother that she didn't return, according to the station.
In the days since she vanished, police have worked to develop a timeline and follow up on the tips that are coming in. Meanwhile, friends and family are posting missing signs in the area. They've also set up a "Find Jennifer Huston" Facebook page, which has garnered more than 28,000 "likes."
Huston reportedly experienced headaches in the days before she disappeared, and police are seeking to obtain medical records to give them "a better idea of where to go," Kosmicki said during a press briefing Tuesday evening.
"There is no bank activity. We're running into roadblocks with some things because we are unable to get subpoenas at this time because it's not a crime," Kosmicki said, reports the station.
At a press conference Monday, Huston's husband Kallen said the disappearance was "totally unlike" his wife, a mother of two young boys.
Police revealed Tuesday that Kallen Huston has taken a polygraph, and passed, the station reports.
"She's a devoted mother," Kallen Houston said in an emotional statement. "She's just a very good person. For her to do something like this is completely out of the norm."
Kallen Huston asked those in the area to look in backyards and along the side of the road for his wife's car.
"Her car is very large and it would wipe out any shrubs, or potentially small trees," Kallen Huston said. "I have a feeling she's in a ditch somewhere."
Police are treating the case as a missing person investigation, reports CBS affiliate KOIN.
"As of this time there is no known criminal nexus to this case nor is there any known threat to the public," police said in a press release, reports the station.
According to a family flier, Huston was last seen wearing black and pink Nike shoes and yoga pants. She is 5-foot-7-inches tall and has blond shoulder-length hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Dundee Police Department at (503)-538-8321.
