Report: Ala. woman missing after boyfriend threatens suicide

Madisonville, La. - Police in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, are searching for a missing Alabama woman whose boyfriend threatened suicide and engaged in a standoff with authorities Saturday, CBS affiliate WWLTV reports.

The woman, 26-year-old Melinda Denny, had been traveling with her boyfriend, Johnathon Nall, from Mobile, Ala. to Texas, reports the station.  Just before noon Saturday, authorities responded to a report of a man with a gun at a gas station.

Authorities engaged in a standoff with Nall, who threatened to kill himself, reports the station. He reportedly did not threaten anyone else with the gun. He was then taken into protective custody after deputies shot him with a less-than-lethal bean bag round, reports the station.

Earlier that day, Denny’s mother reportedly called authorities asking them to check on the couple, saying they were in a parking lot and needed money for gas. Both Denny and Nall were okay when authorities responded. A gun was reportedly found in Nall’s car, but without ammunition.

They were released to continue on their trip, reports the station.

Following the standoff, however, authorities couldn’t locate Denny.  The woman remains missing, and foul play reportedly hasn’t been ruled out.

Nall was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
