Report: Fmr. firefighter in custody after hostage situation

ELKINS PARK, Pa. -- A volunteer firefighter who had recently been fired allegedly took four firefighters hostage inside a Pennsylvania firehouse for about an hour Tuesday morning before he was taken into custody, reports CBS Philly.

The incident began around 10:50 a.m. at the LaMott Fire Company No. 1 in Elkins Park, about 13 miles northeast of Philadelphia.

The suspect was armed with a handgun when he entered the firehouse, Cheltenham Township Police Chief John Norris told the station.

He reportedly fired at least one shot at a wall before police responded. A SWAT team entered the building and began negotiating with the suspect, who let one hostage go before surrendering to police around 11:50 a.m., reports the station.

No hostages were harmed.

Norris told the station the suspect was involved with a dispute with the fire company and was fired Monday. It wasn't clear why he was fired.

The suspect is expected to face charges.
