Remains found on Utah hillside ID'd as woman missing 32 years
FRUIT HEIGHTS, Utah - Human remains found on a hillside in Utah last month have been identified as a woman missing for 32 years, reports CBS affiliate KUTV.
Theresa Rose Greaves was 23 disappeared on Aug. 5, 1983. Originally from New Jersey, the young woman had been living with roommates in Woods Cross, Utah, for five years when she vanished after boarding a bus for a job interview in Salt Lake City, reports the station. Woods Cross is about 10 miles north of Salt Lake City.
A passerby discovered a human skull Feb. 5 on a hillside near Fruit Heights, about 20 miles north of Salt Lake City. Investigators reportedly identified the remains as Greaves after uncovering more remains and pieces of clothing in the area.
Investigators are treating the case as a homicide, but are not releasing details of the medical examiner's report, police told the station. It's not clear how Greaves died.
"We are following every lead with a lot of passion so that we can find exactly what happened to Theresa on that hillside," Sgt. DeAnn Servey of the Davis County Sheriff's Office told reporters.
According to the Deseret News, Douglas Lovell, who pleaded guilty to killing Joyce Yost in 1985 to prevent her from testifying against him for raping her months before, was questioned about the disappearance of Greaves and another woman. But in a 1993 interview with the Associated Press from Utah State Prison, he denied knowing either.
The Utah Supreme Court allowed Lovell to withdraw his guilty plea in 2010, and a new murder trial began just this week for Lovell in the Yost case, reports the paper.
Police wouldn't confirm to the paper whether Lovell was re-interviewed in the Greaves case.
