Pro-Kasich super PAC contrasts Donald Trump to Ronald Reagan
A pro-John Kasich super PAC is continuing its campaign against Donald Trump with a new web video that contrasts Trump's proposal to bar Muslims from entering the U.S. to Ronald Reagan's emphasis on religious tolerance and inclusion.
The video, produced by the group New Day for America, opens with old footage of President Reagan remarking in a speech, "In the party of Lincoln, there is no room for intolerance and not even a small corner for... bigotry of any kind."
Then, over somber music, the video cuts to Trump reading aloud his statement regarding shutting out Muslims. It also shows Trump defending his proposal on various news programs, comparing it to President Roosevelt's internment of Japanese Americans.
The video wraps up by returning to Reagan's speech, in which the iconic GOP president says, "Many people are welcome in our house, but not the bigots."
New Day For America spokesperson Connie Wehrkamp said in a statement that Trump should "rescind his offensive comments and apologize to Muslims or leave the Republican Party. Period."
Last month, New Day for America announced it would be spending $2.5 million to attack Trump, who continues to dominate in polls of Republican voters. The super PAC has already released aggressive attacks on the front runner, including a web video drawing a comparison between Trump's policy proposals and Nazism.
New Day for America's preferred candidate, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, has lingered in the single digits.
