Prison for Georgetown U. student who had ricin in dorm room

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A former Georgetown University student has been sentenced to prison for making the deadly poison ricin in his dorm room.

Daniel Milzman, 20, pleaded guilty in September and on Monday was sentenced to one year and one day in prison. Since Milzman already served more than seven months in jail, he could be in a halfway house in a couple of months, reports CBS Baltimore.

Law enforcement discovered a plastic bag containing the toxin on March 18, in Milzman's Wash., D.C., dorm room.

Milzman, of Bethesda, Md., pleaded guilty in federal court in Washington to unregistered possession of a biological agent or toxin.

Milzman showed his dorm's resident advisor the bag of ricin on March 17, according to a statement released by the FBI. The advisor asked Milzman if he planned to use the ricin on another student.

"Milzman simply shrugged," according to the FBI.

The advisor contacted authorities and the next day officers found the bag containing ricin in a desk in Milzman's room.

No one was harmed due to exposure.

When he is released from prison, Milzman will be under three years of supervised release, will be required to complete 400 of community service and will have to participate in a mental health program.
