Prince to perform Baltimore "peace" concert on Mother's Day

MINNEAPOLIS -- Music superstar Prince has announced he will perform in riot-scarred Baltimore on Sunday in a concert he bills a "Rally 4 Peace," entertainment event promoter LiveNation announced Tuesday.

The event is set to be held at Royal Farms Arena in downtown Baltimore, near the city's Inner Harbor area.

"In a spirit of healing, the event is meant to be a catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the U.S. according to a press release from LiveNation.

Prince has recently embarked on a "Hit & Run USA" tour along with his band 3rdEyeGirl in which he announces surpise concerts just days before he performs. Cities he's been to so far in the tour include. Louisville, Ky., and Detroit.

However, since the show in Baltimore falls on Mother's Day, the icon wanted to give the people there more time to plan for it.

Prince recently composed a song entitled "Baltimore" in response to the unrest that took place there in the wake of the death of Freddie Gray at the hands of police, who have since been charged with homicide. The song remains unreleased.
