President Obama previews his final State of the Union address

President Obama on Wednesday previewed his final State of the Union address as president.

In a video posted on YouTube, Mr. Obama sat on his desk in the Oval Office and said, since taking office, he's doesn't think he's ever been more optimistic about a year ahead.

"I'm working on my State of the Union address. My last one," the president said.

He said he wants the speech to focus on "not just the remarkable progress we've made, not just what I want to get done in the year ahead, but what we all need to do together in the years to come: The big things that will guarantee an even stronger, better, more prosperous America for our kids. That's what's on my mind."

The president will deliver the final address to both chambers of Congress at the Capitol next Tuesday night at 9 p.m.

South Carolina Republican Gov. Nikki Haley is slated to deliver the Republican response after his speech.

While he said he's still working on his speech, Mr. Obama is spending the rest of the week focused on his new push to curb gun violence.

On Thursday, the president will participate in a town hall on CNN that's focused on gun violence. On Tuesday, he unveiled a set of executive actions on guns, including one that would address the so-called "gun show loophole."
