Possible VP choices Newt Gingrich and Jeff Sessions head to Indiana

Trump VP decision expected this week

Donald Trump's possible veep picks are heading to Indiana, just days before the presumptive GOP nominee is expected to publicly announce his running mate.

Trump, along with several key members of his family and campaign staff, met with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence early Wednesday morning, prompting speculation that the Republican governor will join him on the party's ticket.

But Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich -- two other top candidates for the veep position -- were also spotted heading to Indianapolis Wednesday.

According to CNN, Gingrich is meeting with Trump Wednesday at the ex-speaker's request.

And Sessions, the first senator to endorse Trump, told CNN of a possible Trump gathering: "We'll have a visit, I think."

According to a New York Times report, the sudden flurry of activity from VP contenders to Indiana could be due to mechanical problems from Trump's plane, which prevented the candidate from flying back to his home base in New York City.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who is also under consideration for the No. 2 slot, will be in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, according to a CNN report. Christie is in the nation's capital working under his official campaign capacity as the head of Trump's transition team. CNN further reported that Christie was Trump's "gut" choice, while the billionaire's children favored Pence.

In an interview with the Times earlier this week, Trump has said that at the end of the day, he will rely on his instincts to make his final pick.

"A lot of is gut. A lot of it is," he said. "My whole life has been about gut."

Trump is expected to announce his veep pick Friday, a few days before the Republican party's national convention officially kicks off in Cleveland.
