Poll: Donald Trump tops John Kasich in his home state of Ohio
Donald Trump tops Gov. John Kasich among GOP voters in his home state of Ohio, according to a Quinnipiac University survey released Tuesday.
The poll found 31 percent of likely Republican primary voters support Trump while 26 percent back their own governor, Kasich. Twenty-one percent said they support Ted Cruz, 13 percent back Marco Rubio and 5 percent support Ben Carson.
Five percent of Ohio Republican voters said they remain undecided and 38 percent of those who named a candidate said they could change their minds before the March 15 primary.
Despite his lead, nearly a third of Republicans said they "would definitely not support" Trump and just under a quarter said the same about Cruz.
And even though Kasich falls short in his own state, he received the best favorability rating among his competitors, 77 percent. On the other hand, 57 percent said they view Trump favorably.
On the Democratic side, 55 percent of likely Democratic primary voters said they support Hillary Clinton and 40 percent said they back Bernie Sanders. A majority of both men and women said they support Clinton. The two candidates received identical favorability ratings.
Like Republicans, 5 percent of Democratic voters remain undecided and nearly a third who named a candidate said they could still change their minds by the primary in mid-March.
The survey comes just days after Clinton's victory in Nevada's Democratic caucuses.
The poll, conducted between Feb. 16 and 20, surveyed 759 Ohio Republicans with a 3.6 percentage point margin of error and 518 Democrats with a 4.3 percentage point margin of error.
