Police: Texas burglars left behind big clue at crime scene

FORNEY, Texas -- Investigators say a pair of burglars who smashed their way into a Texas home Friday should have been more careful while running through the victim's backyard, reports CBS DFW.

The duo, who allegedly stole $6,000 worth of merchandise, were seen on a surveillance camera kicking down a door to get inside the Forney home. And as they ran up to the door, one of the suspects dropped a time-stamped receipt for a credit card purchase made at a nearby Subway.

Francisco Rios, who lives at the home, told CBS DFW that the thieves stole collectible sneakers, electronics, jewelry and an entire safe from his family. Rios believes the suspects used a Subway sandwich to distract his dogs while they ransacked his home.

He said police expect the Subway receipt will lead them straight to the culprits.

"They're dumb. I mean what else can you say? It's going to come right back to them," Rios said.
