Police: Mother's death in church "an odd, random situation"

Police release more video in search of Texas church murder suspect

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas- A Texas police chief says the circumstances surrounding the death of a mother whose body was found Monday in a church are "odd," reports CBS DFW.

Investigators originally believed that Terri Bevers walked into the Creekside Church during a burglary, but Midlothian Police Chief Carl Smith said Tuesday that police are no longer convinced that's what happened.

"We are exploring all possibilities," Smith said. "It's just an odd, random situation that they would happen to come into a building that's being burglarized on a Monday morning, but all scenarios are on the table right now."

Terri "Missy" Bevers, 45, was at the church Monday morning around 5 a.m. to host a fitness class, according to family members. Her body was discovered by one of the fitness class participants. Police have not said how she was killed.

Terri Bevers, 45, a mother of three girls, was found dead around 5 a.m. at the Creekside Church in Midlothia, Texas, according to police.

Investigators found evidence of forced entry and recovered surveillance video of a suspect wearing what detectives are calling "police tactical gear" including a helmet, vest and gloves.

There is no evidence any items were taken from the church, but property was damaged, police said.

"This is an unusual occurrence for our community. Our first priority is for the safety and well-being of our citizens," said Smith, who noted the town hasn't had a homicide in about seven years.

Anyone with information related to Bevers' death is asked to call police at 972-775-3333.
