Police suspend search for missing Memphis 7-week-old

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Police suspended the search for a missing 7-week-old at 6 p.m. on Saturday, almost three days after the girl disappeared under suspicious circumstances in northeast Memphis last Thursday, reports CBS affiliate WREG.

Over the weekend, the Memphis Police Department said the search for Aniston Walker had been put on hold. Officers used cadaver dogs near the home where the baby lived with her mother, 33-year-old Andrea Walker, and two siblings. 

The search, taking place over nearly three days, produced no results and officers believe there are no relevant places to look that have not already been covered.

According to police, Walker said she left the baby at home with her 3-year-old son while she took her 5-year-old son to school Thursday. When she returned, the baby was gone, but the 3-year-old was still in the house.

Walker was due in court Monday morning to be arraigned on charges of aggravated abuse and neglect. Police say they consider her a suspect in the disappearance.

“I looked in my garbage can and I looked to my barbecue grill and there was nothing,” Debra Finley, who lives near the Walkers, told CBS Memphis.

Finley said she was particularly surprised to hear about Aniston’s disappearance because she wasn’t previously aware of the child at all.

“I knew she had those boys but not the baby. Sure didn’t,” said Finley. “I’m just [as] surprised as everybody else.”

Authorities are hoping someone will come forward with new information.
