Cops: Univ. police chief stabbed stepson with power drill
HAYWARD, Calif. -- Authorities say the police chief of Sonoma State University repeatedly stabbed his stepson in the chest with a power drill and fired a shot inside his home after an argument turned into a fight.
Alameda County sheriff's officials said Tuesday the fight ended with Nathan Johnson, the police chief at Sonoma State University, being treated for a cut on his head and his 20-year-old stepson being taken to a hospital with multiple stab wounds and an apparent punctured lung. Their injuries are not life-threatening.
Sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson tells the San Francisco Chronicle investigators were still trying to figure out what led to the fight Monday night.
Nelson says Johnson told investigators he fired his personal gun into the wall as a warning shot during the altercation.
He says no arrests have been made in the case, which was first called in by Johnson.
