Police: Second escaped New Mexico convict captured

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The second of two convicts who escaped from a fortified prison transport van in New Mexico is now in custody, according to police.

Albuquerque police spokesman Simon Drobik said Saturday that officers located Lionel Clah in a northeastern area of the city.

Clah's capture comes less than a day after the capture of the other inmate, convicted murderer Joseph Cruz, who was also found in Albuquerque. Clah was serving time for armed robbery with a deadly weapon.

The two inmates were able to slip away from prison guards Wednesday night while travelling from Roswell to Las Cruces. They were spotted on an Albuquerque hotel's surveillance camera early Thursday morning, CBS affiliate KRQE reported.

The two guards who were transporting the inmates were placed on administrative paid leave pending an investigation into the escape, authorities said. Investigators were also trying to determine if the prisoners had help.
