Police: Pennsylvania man fired BB gun at horse and buggy

SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- State police have charged an 18-year-old Pennsylvania man with using a BB gun to shoot a horse that was pulling a buggy, an Amish couple and their 1-year-old infant.

Caleb Gotjen was charged over the weekend with reckless endangerment, harassment and disorderly conduct. The incident occurred on Oct. 4 in Summit Township, in the northwest corner of Pennsylvania, near the state's border with Ohio.

Police say Gotjen was in a vehicle and was driving by when he shot the horse.

The animal wasn't seriously injured, but police say it was startled, putting the passengers, Marie and Marvin Yoder, and their child, in danger.

A woman who answered Gotjen's home telephone Monday said she didn't want to comment on the charges.
