Police: Officers shoot, kill woman on Alabama interstate

CLANTON, Ala. - Authorities say officers shot and killed a woman who led them on a pursuit and then fired a gun at them during a confrontation on an Alabama interstate.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the shooting happened Wednesday night on Interstate 65 near Clanton.

Authorities say that about 8 p.m. Wednesday, a man approached an Alabama State Trooper stationed in a construction zone on I-65 and told the trooper his wife had threatened to shoot him.

Officials say the trooper tried to stop the woman's car, and a pursuit began when she refused to stop.

Authorities said in a statement that officers used spike strips on the highway, and the vehicle stopped. They say the woman then fired on officers from various law enforcement agencies, who returned fire, killing her.
