Police: Man seen on camera stealing painting from NYC church
NEW YORK -- Police are trying to identify a man with a cane who they say stole a religious painting from a church in Manhattan, reports CBS New York.
The alleged theft happened at 12:30 p.m. back on May 8 at Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Washington Heights, according to the station. Surveillance captures a man apparently shuffling into the church -- stopping just outside of the sanctuary.
In the video, the man appears to look around to see if anyone was nearby before taking off his jacket, reports CBS New York. Police say he took the painting, wrapped the jacket around the artifact and walked out.
The man has been described as 65 years of age, around 5 feet, 3-inches tall, and weights around 150 pounds, according to investigators.
