Police: Florida parents of 5 fatally shot in home invasion
BRADENTON, Florida -- Police say two people are dead after a home invasion in Bradenton, Florida, south of Tampa, reported CBS affiliate WTSP.
Police told the station that multiple masked men entered the home early this morning by breaking in glass windows and the front doors. The men then shot the two people, apparently the parents of five children who were at home at the time of the attack. According to police, the youngest child is an infant and the oldest is 11-years-old. The children were unharmed and are in the custody of other family members.
The lieutenant in charge of the crime scene said it's not clear how much of the crime the children witnessed, but officials say one of the children told them that four or five masked people committed the crime.
According to WTSP, Police Chief Mike Radzilowski says the children were running around inside the house when police responded at about 3:50 a.m., after the home's alarm system went off because a door was opened while the system was armed.
The man's body was just inside the front door, Radzilowski said, and the woman's body was not far behind him.
Police do not have any suspects in custody. Chief Radzilowski said he does not believe the public is in danger and that the attack was isolated and specific to this couple.
