Police: Escaped West Virginia murder suspect captured
HARRISON COUNTY, W. Va. -- A murder suspect who escaped from a West Virginia psychiatric hospital on Monday is back in police custody, according to CBS affiliate WDTV.
West Virginia State Police say that Rocco Zuccaro is back in custody after three days on the run, according to the station. After an employee at a truck stop told police that Zuccaro came into the store and ran away after stealing items, police found him hiding in tall grass near a natural gas facility.
Zuccaro is in the North Central Regional Jail awaiting arraignment on a felony escape charge, according to WDTV.
He is also awaiting trial on first-degree murder charges involving a Feb. 2013 homicide in Brooke County, W. Va., according to CBS Pittsburgh.
After Zuccaro allegedly scaled a wall late Monday, police used tracking dogs and a helicopter to try to find him. Authorities initially told news stations that Zuccaro, originally from Burgettstown, Pa., might have been heading to Washington County in Pennsylvania.
