Police: Elderly Calif. couple found dead in Glendale home

LOS ANGELES -- Police are conducting a double homicide investigation after an elderly couple was found dead in their Glendale home on Sunday, reports CBS Los Angeles.

A police department spokesperson told the station that they received a call from a worried family member and officers were dispatched to check up on the couple. When officers arrived at the residence, they found the door open and bodies of a man and woman -- described in their 70s or 80s -- inside.

According to CBS Los Angeles, police say that they found newspapers piled up and no sign of forced entry. The home had not been ransacked and there was money in plain view.

Police also believe that the couple had been targeted.

Investigators say the couple's grandson had been living at the home, with neighbors telling the station that he had moved in a year ago. Police would not confirm to to the station whether they had been in contact with him.

A neighbor told the station that he may have heard something suspicious.

"The only thing is that maybe three nights or four nights ago -- midnight -- we heard a shot," Julio Leguicamon told CBS Los Angeles. "But we never know where it's coming from, maybe here, maybe someplace else."

Police were not saying how the couple was murdered, but confirmed they died as a result of a double homicide. Investigators reportedly do not believe that a gun was involved.

As of Sunday night, police did not have any suspects or a motive for the attack.
