Police: Couple overdosed on heroin with child in car

TAUNTON, Mass. - A Massachusetts couple was arrested after allegedly overdosing on heroin while in a car with their 2-year-old child, reports CBS Boston.

Officers say they found 28-year-old Lynette Slocomb and her boyfriend, 30-year-old Jeffrey Silva, in a car Sunday near a food mart in Taunton, about 40 miles south of Boston. Their child was in the backseat, according to the station.

Slocomb and Silva were reportedly transported to a hospital where they were successfully treated with Narcan, a medication used to counter the effects of opioids -- especially in overdoses.

The child was uninjured.

"They had purchased and injected the heroin while the child was in the car," Taunton Police Lt. Paul Roderick said, according to CBS Boston.

Slocomb's mother, Lori Johnson, told the station she hopes her daughter learns from this experience.

"It's a tough situation. I don't wish this on anyone. My biggest fear is getting the phone call that my daughter has passed away. When I heard my grandson was in the car, it upset me even more," she said.

Johnson currently has custody of her 2-year-old grandson, reports the station.
