Police: Conn. man hit in head with machete during brawl

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- New Haven police say an early morning fight sent one man to the hospital with two machete cuts to his head and resulted in five arrests.

Police found out about the fight when they went to the hospital at about 3 a.m. Friday and found the injured man. Police identified the man as New Haven resident 33-year-old Eric Lewis, according to CBS Connecticut.

He'd been transported by an acquaintance, 25-year-old Christina Lucas, police said. Lewis was treated at the hospital and released within a few hours, reports the Hartford Courant.

Officers then went to a home in the city, where they found a trail of blood in the front yard, according to the paper. When no one answered, police kicked in the door and found three people.

30-year-old Henry Bell, 23-year-old Belinda Edwards and 50-year-old Omar Ryan were all arrested and charged with breach of peace for fighting, according to CBS affiliate WFSB.

Ryan, who allegedly admitted to cutting Lewis with a machete, was also charged with first-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon, reported the station.

Police also charged Lewis and Lucas with breach of peace, according to the Courant. They believe the fight was the result of a dispute between Edwards and Lucas.

An official says the incident remains under investigation and more arrests are possible.
