Police: Coach fires gun during youth basketball game

PHILADELPHIA -- Police are searching for a man -- a coach -- who pulled a gun and fired a shot inside a crowded gymnasium on Saturday, according to CBS Philly.

Police say the incident occurred around 2 p.m. Saturday during the second half of a basketball game at the Christy Recreation Center in southwest Philadelphia.

Twenty-six-year-old Maurice Tavares got into an argument with people in the bleachers, they say. He continued shouting, then allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband, firing at the other coach -- a 46-year-old man.

No one was hurt, says Lieutenant John Walker. The gunfire sent the gym full of players, parents and fans scrambling for the exit, according to CBS Philly.

Tavares reportedly got into his car and drove away. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
