Police: Suspect in elderly robberies, attacks in custody
NEW YORK --Police have arrested the man they believe was responsible for a series of violent muggings of elderly women in Brooklyn and Queens, reports CBS New York.
Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said that Clarence Jones was wanted in connection with eight robberies. Some of the robbery victims were in their 80s and 90s, and a number had been roughed up, according to the station.
Boyce told CBS New York that Jones was arrested Monday morning in Brooklyn after a tip from the Crime Stoppers hotline. Boyce said the tip was received at 11:15 a.m., and Jones was in custody at 11:35.
"Think about the timeframe there," he added. "Because of what we have, smart phones and an ability to put people out immediately and deploy. So we got this individual today."
Jones has been arrested 19 times and spent 14 years in prison for a similar crime, according to the station. He was let out on parole in 2014.
