Cops: California twin brothers stab parents in family fight

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- 26-year-old twin brothers are now facing attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing their mother and stepfather during a family fight, according to news reports.

Cody and Kevin Martinez were arrested Sunday night after the altercation in the parking lot of a Sacramento apartment complex, reports CBS Sacramento. Police say the brothers pulled out knives and attacked their parents. The victims, who were not officially identified, suffered stab wounds to their upper bodies, a Sacramento police spokesman told the Sacramento Bee.

In a jailhouse interview with CBS Sacramento, Cody Martinez admitted to stabbing his stepfather and said he accidentally slashed his mother in the throat when she stepped in to try and break up the fight.

"I guess I snapped and stabbed him three times in the stomach," Cody Martinez told the station. He said the brothers had been celebrating their birthdays the night before, and he bought a knife for his brother because "he likes knives." He said he bought a knife for himself as well.

His brother Kevin reportedly denied being involved in the stabbing, but admitted to punching his stepfather during the fight.

Witness Telijah Brown told the station the mother came up to her with a hand over her throat and begged for help.

Telijah Brown, who witnessed the fight, says the mother came up to her with a hand over her throat and begged for help.

"She had a triangle-size gash in her throat," she said. "She took her hand off her throat and it was like a zombie film."

The twins hid from police but were reportedly arrested nearby. Sobbing on camera, Cody Martinez apologized to his mother, who he said he hoped was watching.

"Messed up," he said. "Sorry Mom. I love you."

The victims were listed in serious condition.
