Police body cam video released of Orlando nightclub massacre aftermath

ORLANDO – Police body cam video of the night of the Pulse night club massacre last June has been released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, reports CBS Miami.

The chilling video details the aftermath of the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The images were heavily edited to avoid showing bodies inside the club.

On the video you see officers, with gloves on and guns drawn, enter the club to make sure it is secure hours after the violent attack. It’s almost a surreal scene, a disco ball spins as the victims’ cell phones ring continuously.

Friends and family like Christine Leinonen, mother of Christopher Leinonen, stand by and wait to hear if there loved ones survived.

“What you should do is wait somewhere near by,” she’s told by an officer.

Hours later she would learn her son was among the dead.

Inside, the hunt for the shooter continued. At that point, police say the gunman, Omar Mateen, was barricaded in a bathroom.

Mateen killed 49 people and injured dozens other before he was shot and killed by the police.

The City of Orlando has negotiated a deal to but the club and plans to turn it into a permanent memorial.
