"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" docking in 2017

Captain Jack Sparrow will be heading out on the high seas again -- in about three years.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead No Man Tell No Tales" is set to be released on July 7, 2017, Disney announced Wednesday.

The fifth installment in the blockbuster franchise from producer Jerry Bruckheimer will see Johnny Depp return to the role of the rum-loving mercenary, Jack Sparrow, last seen contently walking along the beach with Gibbs (Kevin R. McNally) in tow.

But a pirate's life is never peaceful, and more mayhem awaits Sparrow, and possibly others from the previous films -- like Geoffrey Rush's Captain Hector Barbossa and Keith Richards' Captain Teague (Sparrow's father.)

Christoph Waltz has also been rumored to join the cast of the upcoming sequel, which will be co-directed by "Kon-Tiki" filmmakers Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg.

According to Box Office Mojo, the previous four entries in the "Pirates" series have taken in a collective $3.73 billion in global ticket sales.

The 2006 film "Dead Man's Chest" made the most in box office booty, digging up $1.066 billion.

And 2011's "On Stranger Tides," the most recent installment in the series, comes in second with $1.045 billion at the international box office. But "Tides" ranks last out of the four when just taking U.S. ticket sales into consideration. The movie made roughly $244 million at the domestic box office, which was still enough to get Disney and Bruckheimer on board again for a sequel.
