Photo: See Michael Fassbender in "Assassin's Creed"

Here's your first look at Michael Fassbender in the highly anticipated film "Assassin's Creed" -- Yahoo released the exclusive image of Fassbender in costume.

The film is based on the wildly popular video game of the same name, and Fassbender stars as Callum Lynch -- a new character who was not part of the game.

The movie is not a retelling of the game. Instead, the film will pick up with a new storyline set in the same world, reports Yahoo.

"Assassin's Creed" follows Lynch as he realizes he is the descendant of a man, Aguilar, who was part of a secret Assassins society in 15th Century Spain. His is able to access memories of Aguilar's adventures and knowledge, and after training and honing in skills, Lynch is finally able to battle the Knights Templar.

Fassbender's colleagues on set are Marion Cotillard, Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed. The movie is to hit theaters Dec. 21, 2016.
