Pa. prison guard accused of smuggling drugs to inmates

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - A guard at the Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania is accused of helping to smuggle drugs to inmates, reports CBS Philly.

Douglas Keck, 45, who was recently hired as a correctional officer at the Chester County Prison, could face up to six years behind bars himself, according to the station.

Chester County district attorney Tom Hogan says he is astonished at the brazenness of the scheme, which was allegedly run by inmates through phone calls made on prison phones.

"There are signs at the prison that say your phone calls are being recorded," Hogan notes. "There is a recording on the beginning of the telephone call that says your phone call is being recorded. And then there are periodic updates during the course of the telephone call that reminds people that their call is being recorded."

Hogan says that in addition to Keck, there were four inmates involved. One of those inmates is now on the run from a halfway house, reports CBS Philly.

Hogan says a girlfriend of one of the inmates as well as another inmate's fiancée are also suspected of aiding the operation.

Keck has since been fired from the prison and is in custody after turning himself in to authorities.
