Small plane crashes into airport hangar in Pennsylvania
TOUGHKENAMON, Pa. -- Authorities say a small plane crashed into a hangar at an airport near Philadelphia, and the two people aboard are reported to have only minor injuries.
Police in Chester County said the small two-seater lost altitude just after taking off at New Garden Airport and crashed just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Aerial footage from CBS Philadelphia station KYW-TV shows the plane nearly missed an entrance to the hangar.
New Garden Township police said the pilot and passenger, a 68-year-old man and a 70-year-old man, were treated at the scene and then transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, Delaware, for additional treatment.
Chief Gerald Simpson said the 1940s-era Aeronca Champ left the runway heading northeast but lost power, tried to return to the airfield and crashed through the east end of a hangar, missing several other vehicles before coming to rest inside.
Federal authorities will investigate the crash at the airport about 40 miles southwest of Philadelphia.
