Pauley Perrette: Civil rights means all of us
CBS News asked noted figures in the arts, business and politics about their experience in today's civil rights movement, or about figures who inspired them in their activism.
Pauley Perrette, actress ("NCIS"), documentary producer ("Citizen Lane")
What civil rights issue are you personally connected to?
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," the Martin Luther King Jr. quote, is on every email I write. I believe that civil rights means all of us.
During the women's movement, there were men who believed that equality means everyone and fought for the rights of women. In the '60s, there were many white people who fought side-by-side with people of color because they believed in equality for all.
As a straight ally, I am dedicated to fighting now for the equality of our LGBT community, just like those who have fought for my rights in the past.
Civil rights has to be for everyone, or we are not truly a nation of equality.
