Paul Ryan invites Trump to address Congress on Feb. 28

Speaker Paul Ryan announced Tuesday that he’s invited President Trump to deliver an address to a joint session of Congress on Feb. 28.

Ryan made the announcement at his weekly press conference on Capitol Hill, and the address will come just over a month after his inauguration.

“This will be an opportunity for the people and their representatives to hear directly from our new president about his vision and our shared agenda,” Ryan told reporters.

Ryan met privately with Mr. Trump Monday evening to discuss their agenda.

“At the White House this evening, Speaker Ryan met with President Trump and Vice President Pence to continue discussions on this year’s legislative agenda and schedule. Topics included next steps on repealing and replacing Obamacare, undoing harmful regulations, enacting job-creating tax reform, rebuilding our military, and securing the border,” said Ryan spokesman Doug Andres. “The Speaker and President Trump are eager to continue moving forward on their shared agenda to jumpstart the economy and get the country back on track.”
