Patricia Arquette to star in "CSI" cyber crime spinoff

Patricia Arquette is taking on a leading role in the CBS' upcoming "CSI" spinoff.

The "Medium" star will play Avery Ryan, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Cyber Crime Division in Quantico, Va., which is "tasked to solve high octane crimes that start in the mind, live online, and play out into the real world."

Avery will be introduced in a "CSI" episode later this spring, reports say.

Arquette, 45, starred on "Medium" from 2005-2011. She had an arc last year on HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" and her film credits include "True Romance," "Ed Wood," "Holes" and "Little Nicky."

"CSI" isn't the only CBS franchise with a new incarnation in the works -- "NCIS" (which just celebrated its 250th episode) is also introducing "NCIS: New Orleans," starring Scott Bakula.
