"Parks and Recreation" co-executive producer Harris Wittels dies at 30

LOS ANGELES -- Harris Wittels, who worked as a writer and executive producer on the NBC comedy "Parks and Recreation," has been found dead of a possible drug overdose at his Los Angeles home. He was 30.

Police Officer Rosario Herrera says Wittels' assistant found him at his home in the Los Feliz area around noon Thursday, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Herrera says the death is being investigated as a possible drug overdose but the Los Angeles County coroner's office will determine the exact cause.

TMZ reported that drug paraphernalia was found in Wittels' home. The comedian had been open about his past drug use, according to ETOnline.com.

Wittels was a co-executive producer and writer on "Parks and Recreation," and he also had a few acting appearances on the show. The comedy finished filming its seventh and final season in December. The series finale will air next Tuesday, Feb. 24.

A friend of Wittels told ET that the writer-producer was reportedly depressed following the show's production wrap and that he was having trouble finding work.

Wittels also performed stand-up comedy and wrote for TV shows including "The Sarah Silverman Program" and "Eastbound & Down."
