Pair found asleep in garage after homeowner reports burglary

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Police in Pennsylvania say officers found a couple asleep in a garage with the light on after a homeowner reported a burglary.

New Castle police tell the New Castle News that they found the couple early Saturday, shortly after the homeowner called them.

Authorities say the homeowner had gone downstairs and realized that a glass jar containing cash was missing, some furniture had been moved and cabinets were opened. She then noticed that her safe had been moved to the back porch, her purse was missing and her basement door was forced open.

Police say they found the sleeping intruders after noticing that the garage light was on.

Twenty-one-year-old Spencer Peak faces a preliminary hearing Sept. 1 on burglary and other charges.

The woman found with Peak hasn't been charged.
