OSU basketball player dies following team workout, school says

STILLWATER, Okla. -- A 21-year-old Oklahoma State University basketball player died Thursday after collapsing following a team workout, the school said in a statement on its website.

Tyrek Coger, a junior college transfer from Raleigh, North Carolina, was transported to Stillwater Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 6:23 p.m., the school said.

Cowboy Head Basketball Coach Brad Underwood said he is devastated by the news. He said that Coger was excited to be at OSU, and passionate about basketball.

"Losing a member of the team is like losing a member of the family. But we know our loss pales in comparison to the pain his family is going through," Underwood said.

Coger, a 6'8" forward, arrived on campus earlier this month.

According to his bio on OSU's site, he attended Word of God Christian High School in Raleigh. He played last season at Cape Fear Community College.
