Oscars 2014: Short takes on animated shorts
"Keep it short" is the key requirement for those who hope to win the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. We've just got time for a short look at tonight's nominees:

"Feral" by Daniel Sousa and Dan Golden is the story of a wild boy, threatened by wolves, who is rescued in the nick of time by a passing hunter. Whether he'll let himself be tamed is another question.

"Get a Horse!" by Lauren MacMullen and Dorothy McKim looks (at first) like a old-time black-and-white Mickey Mouse cartoon. Peg Leg Pete's abduction of Minnie is pure cartoon convention. But Mickey's rescue attempt will prove to be anything but.
- "Get a Horse!" (Disney)
"Mr. Hublot" by Laurent Witz and Alexander Espigares is a joint entry from France and Luxembourg. It tells the story of an eccentric man's adventures in a strange, post-industrial world.

"Possessions" by Shuhei Morita is based on a bit of old Japanese folk wisdom, as a hunter who takes refuge in an abandoned hut finds its hundred-year-old objects inside coming to life.
"Room on a Broom": is a witch's brew of a tale from Max Lang and Jan Lachauer, based on the children's book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler -- with guest appearances by a cat, a dog, and one very determined dragon. With a voice cast that features Simon Pegg, Gillian Anderson, Rob Brydon, and "Blue Jasmine" Oscar-nominee Sally Hawkins.
However much room there is on that broom, there will only be room for ONE Animated Short winner on the Oscar stage tonight.
