One year passes since Maryland siblings' disappearance
GERMANTOWN, Md. -- This September marks one year since 3-year-old Sarah Hoggle and her 2-year-old brother, Jacob, disappeared, reports CBS DC.
The Maryland siblings first disappeared with their mother Catherine Hoggle in Montgomery County early September 2014. Jacob was last seen with Hoggle on Sept. 7, 2014, and Sarah was last seen with her on Sept. 8, 2014, according to the station.
A week later, police reportedly located their mother without the children -- only saying to police that they were alive and that "the kids are safe" during questioning.
Authorities and volunteers spent days searching for the siblings over the past year -- including miles of roadside and railroad tracks, Little Seneca Lake, and northern Montgomery County, according to CBS DC.
Now a year later -- without evidence that proves otherwise -- police don't believe that the children are still alive.
Hoggle has reportedly since been charged with abduction, neglect and hindering the investigation in the disappearance of Sarah and Jacob. Having a history of paranoid schizophrenia, she was reportedly admitted to a psychiatric facility to receive treatment.
Since being taken into custody, Hoggle has been declared incompetent to stand trial multiple times. A status hearing was scheduled for a status hearing on Sept. 18, WUSA9 reported in July, but it is uncertain if she will actually be in court at that time.
