Once more, Ivanka Trump steps into spotlight for her father
CLEVELAND In the biggest moments of her father's presidential campaign, Ivanka Trump has stood by her father as one of his most effective and compelling advocates.
A poised, articulate and measured counterpart to her father's brash, freewheeling style, Ivanka will introduce the Republican presidential nominee in Thursday night's grand finale of the party's convention.
She will be the last of Trump's adult children to speak - and the last to have a chance to try to humanize her polarizing father for the American people, showing warmth between his rougher edges and heart behind his bluntness.
Her brother, Don Jr., says, "There is no one closer to my father than Ivanka."
Ivanka has traditionally stayed out of the political limelight. However, in May, she defended her father from a front-page article in The New York Times that portrayed the GOP nominee as an embroiled billionaire ridden with "unwelcome romantic advances, unending commentary on the female form, a shrewd reliance on ambitious women."
She told "CBS This Morning" at the time that the article had been "widely discredited" and pointed out that the woman in the lead anecdote of the story had said that reporters had manipulated her words.
In July, Ivanka combated Trump's historically discouraging poll numbers among women, telling the Sunday Times of London that Trump "is a feminist," adding, "He's surrounded me with strong female role models who have done just that since I was a little girl."
