Omaha teen mom accused of tossing newborn out second-story window
OMAHA -- Investigators in Omaha say a teen mother gave birth to a premature infant alone in her bedroom before throwing the newborn out of her second-story window, killing it.
Omaha police say the sixteen-year-old will be charged as an adult, reports CBS affiliate KMTV. They say the teen gave birth to the girl around 4 a.m. Friday at her family’s apartment complex. The teen allegedly later confessed to her mother that she had tossed the child out of the window.
The mother told investigators she found the child, called 911 and began CPR. The infant was rushed to a hospital, where she died.
About 30 minutes before police were called, according to the Omaha World-Herald, the teen posted on Facebook, “Who can do me a huge favor and has a car?” with three “crying” emojis.
The teen will face a charge of felony child abuse resulting in death, reports the paper.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine told the paper the infant was alive when the teen allegedly tossed it out the window. An autopsy was expected to determine the child’s cause of death.
