Suspect allegedly tells cops he stabbed man in "act of passion"
EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Police say the suspect in a murder admitted stabbing the victim to death in an "act of passion," reports CBS affiliate KWTV.
Gabe Allen Wainscott was arrested July 10 by police in Edmond, Okla., on first-degree murder and kidnapping charges.
Witnesses said that before the stabbing occurred, Wainscott walked into an apartment where the victim, Gabriel Tomas Adarme, and two other men hanging out, and sat down on a couch with a knife in his hand.
Police said Wainscott put the knife on his leg and told everyone in the apartment to put their cell phones on the floor. The resident told police that Wainscott demanded they tell him where "Trevor" is, referring to a resident of the apartment who is in the Oklahoma County jail at the time.
"Trevor" was arrested the day before on drug charges, according to police.
One of the residents said he asked Wainscott if he was holding them hostage and Wainscott allegedly said he was.
Soon after, Adarme, 26 got up from where he was sitting and took his phone out and walked toward the kitchen. Wainscott allegedly pursued Adarme into the kitchen and attacked him with the knife.
Police said Adarme was stabbed multiple times in the chest and abdomen.
Wainscott then allegedly fled and was arrested by Edmond police a few blocks away.
Investigators said in court documents that Wainscott called the murder was an "act of passion," because he was having relationship problems with his girlfriend.
Wainscott allegedly admitted to the stabbing to police, but said he intended to stab a different person.
