Officials: Rutgers student killed in shooting near campus
NEWARK, N.J. --Officials say a Rutgers University student has been killed in a double shooting inside an off-campus apartment.
Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Katherine Carter says the shooting took place around 10 p.m. Sunday near the university's Newark campus. The university says one student was killed in the shooting.
Officials say the second victim isn't associated with the school and has been taken to a hospital.
The university says the shooting isn't a random act and there are no threats to the school community.
Authorities didn't immediately identify the victims.
Police say they're looking for two people in their early 20s who were seen running from the scene.
