Obamas make burritos for MLK service project

The first family visited the DC Central Kitchen as part of a Martin Luther King Day service project, where they prepared meals that will be distributed to shelters around the city.

The family prepared beef burritos alongside regular volunteers. President Obama complimented his younger daughter Sasha’s burrito technique as “outstanding” and said with a smile he was very proud of her.

The family chose the DC Central Kitchen because they are celebrating their 25th anniversary of taking local produce and leftover meals that they turn into 5,000 meals. They also participate in the Culinary Job Training program, which enrolls unemployed adults in a 14-week program that helps them overcome homelessness, addiction and incarceration.

“We are noting the 25th anniversary of this outstanding institution,” President Obama said. “We just want to thank everybody who’s here for all the great work that they do.”

Earlier in the day on Monday, Vice President Biden spoke about the importance of voting rights at the National Action Network's annual King Day breakfast.
