NYC teen caught on video attacking mom with baby gets 3 years in prison

NEW YORK -- Prosecutors say a New York City teenager charged with assault after a videotaped street attack on a woman with a baby has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson said Friday that 19-year-old Alonzo Brown will also need to serve four years of post-release supervision.

Authorities say Brown rushed a woman from behind on Nov. 28, 2014, and that she received a "flying drop kick" when he went for her phone. She had her 3-month-old son strapped to her as she crashed to the sidewalk.

"I got scared," the shaken mother said, according to the station's account last year.

But she was very grateful she and her child were both safe.

"Everything's good," she said. "My baby's good and I'm good."

Officials told reporters that Brown had several arrests on his record, including criminal possession of a weapon.

The incident was captured on nearby surveillance cameras. The mother and baby were treated at a hospital. An attorney listed for Brown in online court records did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
