Cops: Patient angry over wait time, X-ray fired shot in emergency room
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- An off-duty deputy shot a gunman at a suburban Houston medical center Tuesday morning,reports CBS affiliate KHOU.
The incident happened at the North Cypress Medical Center in northwest Harris County.
Harris County Sheriff’s officials tell KHOU the gunman had an unknown medical condition and came to the emergency room for treatment. He was reportedly upset that he had to wait for a doctor. The hospital says the man was admitted because he needed an X-ray, but he became angry after a nurse and doctor told him he needed to take his clothes off.
That’s when he allegedly left the exam room and pulled out a gun.
Deputies ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he refused, police say. The suspect reportedly fired one shot into the air before he was shot by an off-duty deputy who was working security for the hospital.
The suspect was critically injured, the station reports. He is in stable condition but remains “combative,” the station reports.
