"No Boundaries Bandit" arrested in Illinois: report

CHICAGO - A bank robber known as the "No Boundaries Bandit" has been captured in Illinois following a chase with authorities, reports CBS Chicago.

Rodrigo Medellin, 31, was arrested in Cook County on Sunday after getting into a vehicle and foot chase with officers that ended in the town of Cicero, Ill., officials said. According to the station, Medellin is charged with multiple counts of armed robbery and other felonies, including aggravated assault on a police officer and aggravated fleeing and eluding police.

Town spokesman Ray Hanania said Medellin is believed to be the "No Boundaries Bandit," who has robbed 12 banks across the Chicago region. He said Cicero police recognized the suspect from surveillance photos as an individual with suspected gang ties.

The "No Boundaries" nickname refers to the wide geographical area of Chicago covered by the robberies, according to the station. The bandit allegedly robbed five banks in Chicago and another seven in nearby suburban towns.

CBS Chicago reports authorities apprehended Medellin around 3 p.m. after a short vehicle and foot chase. Hanania said the suspect was found in possession of a loaded Tec 9 firearm with a 30-round magazine.

Medellin was questioned Monday by the FBI, Hanania said. No information was immediately made available about court appearances.

The "No Boundaries Bandit" is suspected of robbing 12 banks in Illinois over the course of the last three months, starting on May 27, 2014 and continuing until the most recent heist less than a week ago at PNC Bank in Berwyn on Aug. 28.
